I just had to comment on this. These are some good points especially the one discipline being key. When I have work to do from home, I get so distracted because no one is noticing how many times I check my phone, or how often I surf the web. After having the TV on and always getting up to see what’s in the fridge, I got one hour worth of work done in three hours. How productive is that? I always enjoy the list articles. Keep the list articles coming! Its fun!

I’m currently thinking about whether this is something I want to do. Lots of aspects of working from home are very attractive, but everything you’ve listed are the things I worry will drive me crazy!

While I partially agree, I LOVE working from home! Sure it has its downsides, but the freedom I have makes up for it. No awful boss, no annoying coworkers, no putting up with clients I don’t want to work with, and a lot more ME time. Waiting to hear back from clients? Instead of trying to look busy to a boss, I can run errands, workout, knit, or take a nap. Sure I’m responsible for everything, and sure I work long hours sometimes, but if I finish a day’s work in 2 hours, I don’t have to stick around for 6 more hours at a desk because those are work hours. I can go do whatever the heck I want!

Oh, how I’ve thought of working from home many, many times. I always envisioned it be fun…but after careful thought and consideration, I think I prefer actually leaving the house to go to work. Granted, there are benefits to staying at home. Still, I like being out and about. You listed several good reasons for why some individuals can go bonkers if they stay at home all day. Thanks for the comparative studies. It was a good read.
