Money Monday : CherryPal

Published on Monday, July 21, 2008

To save money, where should you start first? How about your computer?

“The CherryPal desktop is a tiny PC designed with the user in mind. It does all the things you do every day: surf the web, keep in touch with your friends, listen to iTunes, watch videos, word processing, presentations and spreadsheets, all without the hassle of a traditional PC. It only uses 2 watts of power, lasts 10 years and has 80 percent fewer parts. There’s no software or upgrades to install, no risk of viruses, and no operating system to deal with and free 24/7 support – all for just $249. We’ve created the most affordable, easiest-to-use and greenest desktop computer available.”

The site is smooth, the rendered CherryPal looks sleek, but would you buy this?

I’m wondering how this will go if it becomes popular and if we’ll see cherries replacing apples on the backglass of cars everywhere.

That's pretty cool. For $250 I think it's worth it. Only has 4GB on the actual unit, but 50GB available on their "Cherry Cloud" online.

When I go to http://www.cherrypal.com it forwards to the IP. Strange things happening over there with the fruits.

Thank you for talking about the CherryPal C100. I am linking to this page from my blog, CherryPal for Everyone, at cherrypal dot blogspot dot com. I am excited about how the CherryPal can bridge barriers to people who have not had access to computers or the internet because of money, fear, education or other challenges. I will be commenting on my experience of using it on my blog as soon as I get my own CherryPal C100! You can use CODE CPP206 to get your own CherryPal for $10 less than purchase price at Paypal when they are shipping (soon!) The best update I've gotten on availability is that the delay is due to a last minute decision to upgrade the solid state storage to a faster, higher quality version than planned. The hardware is working perfectly but the software requires some tweaks to fully optimize the OS to the new hardware. I think its worth the wait as there is nothing else available at the price point of $239 (using code CPP206). Come visit http://cherrypal.blogspot.com for updates I am an anticipated fan with interests in cloud computing, green washing, sustainability and cheap, reliable connectivity.
